Government funding options

Government childcare funding in the UK is designed to help parents with the cost of childcare, making it more affordable for families. There are several types of funding available, depending on the age of the child, the family's income, and whether the parents are working.

For 2-Year-Olds:

15 Hour Working Parent Funding:

  • Working parents of 2-year-olds may qualify for 15 hour Working Parent Funding per week. To be eligible, both parents (or a single parent in a single-parent household) must be earning at least the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week but no more than £100,000 annually.

Enfield’s Terrific Twos:

  • For families in Enfield, the Terrific Twos scheme offers 15 hours of free childcare per week for eligible 2-year-olds.  This local initiative is designed to give young children a strong start before they enter formal schooling.  More information can be found here:  Terrific Twos | Informed Families (enfield.gov.uk)

For 3 and 4-Year-Olds:

15 Hours Funding:

  • All 3 and 4-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours childcare per week. This universal offer is available to all families, regardless of income, starting from the term after the child turns three until they start school.

30 Hours Working Parent Funding:

  • Working parents of 3 and 4-year-olds may qualify for an additional 15 hours per week.  To be eligible, both parents (or a single parent in a single-parent household) must be earning at least the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week but no more than £100,000 annually.  This extended funding supports working families by reducing childcare costs.

For Children of All Ages:

Tax-Free Childcare:

  • Available for children up to the age of 12 (or 17 if the child is disabled), this scheme allows parents to set up an online childcare account. For every £8 paid into this account, the government adds £2, up to a maximum of £2,000 per child per year (£4,000 for disabled children). This can be used to pay for approved childcare providers.  To be eligible, both parents (or a single parent in a single-parent household) must be earning at least the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week but no more than £100,000 annually.

How to Apply:

Application Process: Parents can apply for funding or set up a Tax Free Childcare Account through the government's website:  Sign in to your childcare account - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
